Reflections from Our Local Water Crew
We all come to the water for different reasons. Some of us are chasing adrenaline. Some are chasing stillness. Some just need a place where their feet don’t touch the ground and no one is asking for a spreadsheet.
Each week in this series, we ask:
“What keeps you floating?”… or paddling.
What draws you back to your board or kayak? What does the water give you that the world can’t?
This week’s reflection comes from:
💬 Lena D., Brunswick native, 3-year SUP lover
“It’s the only time my brain gets quiet. The water doesn’t ask anything of me, it just holds me up.”
Lena doesn’t paddle to push boundaries or track mileage. She paddles because it’s the only place she feels weightless; not just in her body, but in her mind. Out there on Greenbrier Lake, with early fog lacing the tree line, she finds what so many of us crave: a moment without noise.
There are no pop-ups. No dings. No to-do lists.
Just water.
And breath.
And the rhythmic pull of a paddle.
Why We Started This Series
At SUP Frederick, we’ve always said our community is more than just paddle boards and dry bags. We’re a floating collective of thinkers, feelers, and finders-of-peace.
This series is a reminder: you’re not alone in needing the water.
Whether it’s healing from something hard, searching for clarity, or simply staying sane in a loud world; your reason is valid. And your story might just be the reason someone else keeps paddling.
